Richard served 9 years as a Customs Employee working in Inspection, Control, Classification and Valuation. Leaving the Customs Service in 1987 Richard managed a Customs brokerage Import Export operation for 3 yrs. In 1989 for the next 20 years Richard joined the Importer side to create, manage and maintain Import Operations in all levels from Import Manager to Senior Director of Logistics and Customs Compliance as well as Vice President of Operations. Along the way Richard has assisted new start up companies in creating and maintaining successful Import operations. Richard holds a Customs Brokers License.
With 32 years of government service, John's position prior to retirement was Acting Group Supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). From 1988 to 2008 John was assigned as a Senior Special Agent for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement formally known as the U.S. Customs Service. Within those years John was involved in various investigations including, bribery and corruption, import fraud, Qui Tam (False Claims Act), artifact smuggling and recovery, intellectual property rights, physical security, assist identification and recovery, and money laundering. Through his service he has held other positions within the Customs Service as an Import Specialist and Mail Specialist. John has received numerous awards, citations and accommodations from the United States Secretary of the Treasury, United States Attorney's Office of the Eastern District of New York, Special Agent in Charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Commissioner of U.S. Customs Service.
